Corran College and the wider community of Ballymote and Sligo have joined forces to continue to fundraise for a project close to their hearts. It all began six years ago when Staff, students and the parents association of Corran College raised E40,000 to build Coláiste Chorainn, a Trade School in Tanzania. The project is on-going and requires E3,000 each year to ensure there is enough money to pay salaries for teaching staff and buy materials and equipment for the school.
Colette OHagan (former principal of Corran College) said There are only a small number of Government National Schools in the area. There are little or no opportunities for students to advance their education after leaving primary school. Our Trade School now gives these children an opportunity to learn a skill and educate themselves.
This year the fundraising effort has taken the form of a glamorous makeover event For One Night Only, on Wednesday 14thNovember, in the Art Deco Ballymote. Corran College have some local businesses to assist in these transformations and promise a fantastic night out. Salon 2 will reveal some fabulous new hair styles and give some helpful tips. Anthony Kilcoyne of Salon 2 is one of the main organisers of the event and said -Im a past pupil of Corran College. Its fantastic to be able to help out with such a worthy cause and yet have fun doing it. Its going to be a great night and were looking forward to revealing the new looks.
New Image Beauty Clinic in Ballymote run by Denise Davey will live up to her salon name and local shops – Wallis, Carrick Donn, Lavins Menswear and Graceful Occasions will complete the transformations.
